Cloud-Native Stack: The Foundation for Scalable Applications
What Is the Cloud Native Stack
Six Building Blocks, One Common Technological Foundation
The Cloud Native Stack is not a single technology, but rather the interplay of infrastructure, runtime environment, and operational processes that secunet.cloud leverages across all product lines.
Compute, storage, and networking serve as the foundation upon which every cloud application is built.
Applications are packaged and run in isolated, portable units, regardless of the target system.
Kubernetes and OpenShift handle the scaling, distribution, and self-healing of container environments.
Applications are broken down into small, independent services that can be developed individually.
Automated pipelines deploy software updates without requiring manual intervention.
Continuous monitoring of the system's status detects malfunctions before they lead to a failure.
Architecture
A layered model, from infrastructure to observability
The stack is structured in six layers. At the very bottom is the infrastructure, consisting of compute, storage, and networking. Above that are containers and runtimes (Docker, Containerd), which run applications in an isolated and portable manner. Orchestration via Kubernetes and OpenShift automatically controls and scales these containers. Built on top of this are microservices—independent services instead of a monolith. CI/CD & DevOps automate updates and deployment. At the very top, observability & monitoring via Prometheus and Grafana ensure that issues are detected before they lead to an outage.
Why secunet cloud
An open stack, without compromising operations
Open standards are only half the answer. The other half is who actually supports operations when it counts.
Central Services as a Managed Service
You can use the core components of the Cloud Native Stack without having to build your own operational expertise.
Lower Barrier to Entry for Migration
In-house developed, integrated components make it easier for new users to get started and for existing users to migrate from other cloud environments.
Open, rather than tied to a single provider
Standard-compliant architecture without dependence on a single vendor—verifiable rather than contractually guaranteed.
A foundation for all protection levels
The same cloud-native stack supports public, private, and classified clouds without requiring a separate technology for each tier.
A common foundation across multiple product lines
