The Open Foundation for Digital Sovereignty in Europe
Why OpenStack
Six reasons why OpenStack is the ideal cloud platform in Europe
OpenStack is not a niche product, but rather the technological foundation upon which a sovereign cloud infrastructure can actually be implemented in Europe.
Our own, independent cloud installations in our own data center, without relying on U.S. providers.
Open source under the Apache License. This provides flexibility and prevents vendor lock-in from the ground up.
Isolated operation of data and networks makes it possible to actually meet requirements such as BSI C5 and the GDPR, rather than just claiming to do so.
Workloads can be deployed across different OpenStack operators instead of being tied to a single one.
Designed for managing thousands of servers and virtual machines, from individual projects to large-scale environments.
As GPU clusters become increasingly important, OpenStack is also increasingly positioning itself as a foundation for AI infrastructure.

Sovereign Cloud Stack: OpenStack as a Common Standard
The Sovereign Cloud Stack (SCS) is an alliance of European providers who are defining a standardized, sovereign cloud platform based on OpenStack, rather than each building their own isolated system. For customers, this means that workloads can be migrated between SCS-certified providers without having to rebuild the architecture. secunet cloud is SCS-certified and thus directly supports the goals of the German Government Cloud Strategy, which relies precisely on this interoperability.
Why secunet cloud
OpenStack, without letting operations get bogged down
An open standard is only half the answer. The other half is who actually supports operations when it counts.
Hardened OpenStack Foundation
secunet cloud operates a highly secure OpenStack platform developed in-house, without deviating from the open standard.
SCS Certification as Proof
Compatibility with the Sovereign Cloud Stack did not require any changes to the core components because the system was built to comply with standards from the outset.
Open, rather than tied to a single provider
Standard-compliant architecture that is not dependent on a single vendor, with traceability rather than contractual guarantees.
A foundation for all protection levels
The same OpenStack foundation supports public, private, and classified clouds without requiring a separate technology for each tier.
A common foundation across multiple product lines

A hardened OpenStack foundation for higher security requirements, extending into the classified domain.
